RIVAL CONCERT PROMOTERS BIDDING FOR BOWIE GIG
Two of the biggest concert promoters on the planet are posturing to persuade “Space Oddity” singer David Bowie to return to the concert stage for the first time in over eight years. According to Britain’s Daily Mirror, concert giants Live Nation and AEG have offered the 66-year old Rock and Roll Hall of Famer millions to stage a massive concert at London’s Olympic Park or the city’s Hyde Park, respectively, in 2014. However, a rep for Bowie has stated, “There are currently no plans for any live dates.”
STEWART ROLLS OUT RARITIES ON NEW TWO-CD SET
Two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Rod Stewart will deliver a treasure trove of obscure tracks on the forthcoming aptly titled two-disc collection, Rarities, available today via Universal Music. A highlight of the Soccer Rocker’s upcoming set of selections is a rowdy rendition of his signature song “Maggie May” featuring fellow former Faces bandmate Ronnie Wood recorded on BBC Radio One. Stewart’s next slate of North American live shows gets underway October 19 in Atlanta.
NUGENT’S WIFE ARRESTED TRYING TO BOARD PLANE WITH LOADED GUN
Fanatical gun rights advocate Ted Nugent’s wife, Shemane, was arrested last week after authorities found a loaded .38 caliber revolver and extra ammunition in her carry-on baggage at Dallas/Ft. Worth Airport. The attorney representing “Terrible Ted’s” wife described the incident as an “honest mistake,” adding that Mrs. Nugent “completely forgot or never knew the weapon was in her bag.”
THE CLASH’S JONES DONE WITH ASSEMBLING REISSUES
As far as The Clash guitarist Mick Jones is concerned, the band’s massive 13-disc box set, Sound System, will be the final reissue he’ll have a hand in putting together. He told Rolling Stone, “I’m not even thinking about any more Clash releases. This is it for me, and I say that with an exclamation point.” Asked why the band never regrouped after breaking up, Jones said, “We were never in agreement. That’s why we never got together in the first place. Most importantly for us, we became friends again after the group broke up, and continued that way for the rest of the time. That was more important to us than the band.”
SIR ELTON, OZZY’S WIFE SHARE DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
Most rock fans know that Sharon Osbourne, wife of Black Sabbath frontman, Ozzy, has a very dirty mouth and mind, but some might be surprised to learn Sir Elton John shares Sharon’s penchant for being naughty. Sharon recently revealed John sends her links to dirty websites, telling UK television, “He sent me this thing and it’s a Brazilian farting website. And there’s this one lady, she’s…voluptuous! And she’s farting up a storm and there is this other lady who’s very tiny with her nose – she’s got a big nose, and it’s right up this other woman’s bum. He’s filthy!”

NIGHT RANGER READIES 2014 ALBUM RELEASE
Eighties hitmakers Night Ranger are “about 12 songs into a new album,” according to singer and main songwriter Jack Blades, who told Billboard, “We don’t feel we’re there yet. We were going to release a record in the fall but we pushed it off to the spring of next year so we could get back in (to the studio) and write about seven or eight more songs…” Blades added that the songs they have so far are “pretty rockin’. There’s a lot of slamming stuff.”
LOVERBOY LOOKING TO ASSEMBLE SONGS FOR NEW ALBUM
Canadian rockers Loverboy released their latest album, Rock ‘n’ Roll Revival, in August 2012, and according to lead singer Mike Reno, the group has gathered 16 songs so far for their next set of songs – some of which were discovered sitting the their vaults. Reno told Billboard, “The last couple of years we took all of our two-inch tapes, from the very beginning, and loaded them to the digital format. Half of them are already recorded, maybe semi-mixed; they got lost in the shuffle back then or had to be cut… It’s the kind of stuff that, if you like ‘Workin’ For the Weekend’ and ‘Turn Me Loose,’ you’re gonna love some of this s***.”
