U2 UNLEASHES THE POWER OF “ORDINARY LOVE” LYRIC VIDEO

It is no ordinary day when U2 fans worldwide awake to the news that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band has released a lyric video for a brand new song. Yesterday the group shared the lyric video for “Ordinary Love,” a new track written for the soundtrack to the forthcoming film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. “Ordinary Love” and a reworked version of “Breathe” from 2009’s No Line on the Horizon will be available for download on November 29, the same day the movie opens in limited release.

ROSE’S EX-WIFE SELLING OFF STUFF FROM THEIR SHORT-LIVED MARRIAGE

Her famous father, Don Everly, one half of the Everly Brothers, once sung “Bye Bye Love” and now Erin Everly, once Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose’s wife, is saying bye bye to love letters and other mementos from their mere seven-month marriage. Everly, who married Rose in 1990 and was the inspiration for “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” will auction off photos, handwritten lyrics, close and even wedding video through Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills on December 6 and 7 as part of the auction Icons & Idols 2013: Rock N’ Roll.

WEIR WELCOMES 2014 WITH MONTH-LONG RATDOG TOUR

The new year will bring with it a new round of Ratdog concerts, Bob Weir has confirmed. The longtime Grateful Dead guitarist and his band will launch the trek with two shows in Philadelphia on February 14 and 15 followed by dates in Washington, DC, Boston, Portland, ME, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, Knoxville and Nashville before closing shop March 16 in Atlanta.

SANTANA SHARES SKINNY ON NEW SPANISH SINGLE “LA FLACA”

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Carlos Santana is back with “La Flaca” (loosely translated as “The Skinny One”), the first sonic salvo off his forthcoming Spanish album Corazón, due early next year. The single features vocals from Colombian superstar Juanes and the album will include collaborations with some of the biggest names in Latin music. In related Santana news, the celebrated Mexican-born musician has been selected as one of the recipients of this year’s Kennedy Center Honors which he’ll receive at a December 8 ceremony that will be televised December 29 on CBS.

COLLECTION OF ITEMS OWNED BY RONNIE MONTROSE TO BE AUCTIONED

Fans of the late Ronnie Montrose will have an opportunity to own some of the late Montrose and GAMMA guitarist’s prized personal possessions when a lot of his instruments and personal items go on sale at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills on December 6. Items up for bid include several stage-played guitars, personal items, stage and studio equipment and memorabilia. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to Sweet Relief, an organization that provides financial assistance to struggling career musicians.

FIRST “METALLICA NIGHT” AT AT&T PARK A HIT, BAND INKS SECOND

Bay Area hometown heroes Metallica and the San Francisco Giants hosted the first annual “Metallica Night” last season at AT&T Park and the event proved to be so popular the band and baseball club will team to do it again next season. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers announced the second annual “Metallica Night” will take place May 16, 2014 when the Giants face the Miami Marlins, and just like last season the band will perform the National Anthem before the first pitch.

MATTHEWS TINKERING WITH TUNES FOR NEXT DMB ALBUM

During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Dave Matthews revealed he’s been “messing around in the studio” working on songs for the next Dave Matthews Band album, the follow-up to last year’s Away From the World. Matthews said, “I’m just trying to come up with something that doesn’t sound like the past. There are some songs that the band has been playing for a long time. And then whenever I start messing around in the studio, I start writing, so hopefully we can come up with something worth listening to.”
