DEF LEPPARD SET TO FIRE UP PYROMANIA SIN CITY RESIDENCY
After already having caused hysteria in March and April of this year with their Viva Hysteria residency at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Def Leppard will again set up shop in Sin City in 2014 with a Viva Pyromania residency. Guitarist Phil Collen told Billboard the band will “be doing Viva Pyromania at some point at the end of next year.” Collen again confirmed the band is preparing to record an album of all new material in Dublin, Ireland, though he did not offer a timetable for its release.
DEF LEPPARD WONDERS WHETHER BOY BAND BORROWED SOME “SUGAR”
Lawyers for Def Leppard are looking into whether British Boy band One Direction may have sprinkled too many parts of their megahit “Pour Some Sugar on Me” over the chorus of the title track of the pop superstar’s recently released album Midnight Memories. A source close to Def Leppard reportedly told UK tabloid the Mirror, “Music lawyers will routinely scour hits like this one to see if there is any evidence that a band has either copied or cleverly mimicked a Def Leppard song… Everyone is staying silent at this stage but it’s clear the two songs sound alike…” This past summer, the boy band was accused of pilfering a piece of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” for their smash single “Best Song Ever,” but Pete Townshend gave them his blessing, calling the group “part of pop’s lineage.”
VAN ZANDT REACTS TO E STREET BAND HALL OF FAME INDUCTION
Longtime E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt serves on the nominating committee for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame so he must’ve had a strong indication that his group was going to be inducted this April after receiving the Award for Musical Excellence. In reacting to the honor, he told Rolling Stone, “It was good. Most people really assumed we were already in. It’s good to get it officially done.” Many would have made that assumption based on the fact that Van Zandt’s boss, Bruce Springsteen, was inducted way back in 1999.
ROD READS REPORTER’S REQUEST, SINGS “SAILING”
Montreal Gazette writer and rabid Rod Stewart fan Richard Burnett penned an open letter to the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee pleading for him to sing the somewhat obscure song “Sailing” at his December 14 show in Montreal. Lo and behold fan footage captured Stewart fulfilling Burnett’s request, but before diving into the tune he told the audience, “This chap has waited long enough.” In his letter, Burnett noted that the December 14 show would be his 31st Rod Stewart concert. Afterwards he said, “I just about died and went to heaven.”

The January 24 and 26 gigs will spotlight the music of Cream, while the January 25 and 27 shows will showcase the sounds of the Scorpions.
STANLEY’S STORY SET TO ARRIVE CLOSE TO ROCK HALL INDUCTION
The timing could not be more fortuitous for the arrival of Kiss frontman Paul Stanley’s long-awaited autobiography. Face the Music: A Life Exposed is scheduled to be on book shelves on April 22, 2014, less than two weeks after Kiss is finally inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. For years, Stanley had been adamantly opposed to penning his own life story, going so far as to say, “Tooting my own horn is of no interest to me…it takes you away from real life. It’s a waste and I don’t find a need to sing my own praises.”
