Queen Releasing Album Of Unreleased Freddie Mercury Song

(hennemusic) Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed more details regarding the band's plans to issue unreleased material featuring the late Freddie Mercury, during a new interview with BBC Radio. "We found a few more tracks with Freddie singing and all of us playing, and they're quite beautiful," May told BBC Radio Wales' Wynne Evans. "So people will be hearing this work towards the end of the year. We are gonna put out an album which probably is called Queen Forever. And it's a compilation, but it will have this new material which nobody in the world has ever heard. I think people will really enjoy it." "Most of it comes from the '80s when we were in full flight. So it's is quite emotional," May continued. "It is the big, big ballads and the big, big epic sound. It wouldn't have been if we hadn't have done this restoration job. We had to start from scratch, because we only had scraps. But knowing how it would have happened if we had finished it, I can sit there and make it happen with modern technology. And we have Pro Tools these days; and you can do almost anything in Pro Tools." The project is expected to include Mercury's work with Michael Jackson, as well as unreleased collaborations with David Bowie, Andy Gibb, and Rod Stewart.

Attorney Trying To Stop Led Zeppelin Reissue

(Radio.com) Attorney Francis Alexander Malofiy likes to go after big adversaries in the courtroom. He recently made headlines when he announced that he was representing the trust of the late Spirit frontman Randy California and founding Spirit bassist Mark Andes in a copyright infringement suit against Led Zeppelin because of similarities between Zep's "Stairway to Heaven" and Spirit's "Taurus." They are also filing an injunction that would block the upcoming reissue of Led Zeppelin IV, which contains the song. But Malofiy just had a rather large setback in another case against a high-profile artist: Usher. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Malofiy was representing Dan Marino (not the legendary football player), who was suing Usher over the song "Bad Girl," which he originally co-wrote with his former songwriting partners William Guice and Dante Barton. During the trial, however, Judge Diamond spoke against Malofiy in particular; filing a 22-page Sanctions Memorandum against him, saying that the "Defendants have shown clearly and convincingly that Attorney Francis Malofiy has acted disgracefully: lying to an unsophisticated, impoverished, unrepresented Defendant, thus convincing that Defendant to expose himself (probably baselessly) to substantial liability." That "unrepresented Defendant" was William Guice, whom he reportedly duped, telling him, "Don't worry about it. [Marino] is not coming after you, it's everyone else," and then convinced Guice to sign an affidavit admitting he failed to give his client credit for writing and producing the song; he also recorded a conversation with him without his knowledge. The Judge's memorandum also said, "Malofiy also needlessly increased discovery costs. Denying Plaintiff the 'fruits' of Malofiy's misconduct and requiring Malofiy to pay these increased costs are the least sanctions I can impose." He concluded, "Whether Malofiy should be removed from practice is a question properly answered in another forum." Whether or not he will be removed before officially filing the Led Zeppelin lawsuit remains to be seen. Malofiy is also representing Spirit's Mark Andes in a separate lawsuit against the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Andes is also a former member of Heart, and along with the band's ex-drummer Dennis Carmassi, is suing the Rock Hall for using their likenesses in the band's induction at the 2013 ceremony, despite the fact that they weren't included in the induction.

Paul McCartney Hospitalized

(Radio.com) According to reports, Paul McCartney has been hospitalized in Japan following the cancellation of his Asian tour. The former Beatle reportedly has a virus infection, which caused his eventual hospitalization, USA Today reports. According to the Sankei Sports newspaper in Japan, he was admitted when the infection worsened. McCartney originally canceled tour dates in Japan and South Korea earlier this week, the cause for the nixing of the dates deemed, again, a virus. "I was really looking forward to playing in Tokyo again after we had such an amazing time here in November," McCartney had said in a statement. "So to cancel this show as well as the National Stadium shows is hugely disappointing for me as well. I'd like to thank my Japanese fans for their love, messages of support and understanding." A spokesperson for the singer also noted that the canceled dates were being worked on for possible rescheduling. McCartney's website confirmed the news on Thursday, "Since contracting a virus last week that led to the postponement of tour dates, Paul received successful medical treatment at a hospital in Tokyo."
